100 years of Portsmouth Sailing Club

Portsmouth Sailing Club is marking its centenary with the launch of the Spithead Series and the reinstatement of the dinghy and keelboat event, the Pompey Perisher.

The Old Portsmouth-based club has recently seen a growth in membership, particularly from younger sailors from the University of Portsmouth and Portsmouth 1st Sea Scouts. This follows investment in pontoons and a crane which has stimulated the growth of its Squib keelboat fleet where these younger members are active.

The club’s Parhelion yacht racing series, which is held every spring and autumn, is to be renamed the Spithead Series for 2020, with the introduction of a new format, and there will continue to be a close affiliation with the traditional keelboat Victory Class.
