Portsmouth Sail Training Trust looking for Chief Operating Officer/Development Director

Closing date 5th December 2016

The Portsmouth Sail Training Trust (PSTT) is a young charity dedicated to the education and training of young people in the Portsmouth area, helping them break out of the poverty cycle.

PSTT works with 12 to 21 year olds to raise aspirations, support educational development, and help these inner city young people acquire commercially recognised, practical qualifications with transferable skills, to help them break into the job market. It may also over time help to alleviate a significant skills shortage which persists in the marine leisure and maritime sector, both locally and internationally.Following its first two full years of operation PSTT has already made a significant impact on the lives of over 60 young people and has an ambition to reach 200 per annum by 2019.

To achieve this ambition, they are now looking for an individual who shares their passion for their important work, with the ability to provide leadership to a growing organisation. You’ll have the gravitas to engage credibly with a wide range of stakeholders and the drive to significantly enhance their fundraising capability. In return you will be guaranteed an exciting, challenging and rewarding experience within a progressive and forward-thinking organisation.

PSTT is a recognised high performing RYA Training Centre, where young people gain many commercially recognised qualifications. The Trust provides opportunities for PSTT young people to broaden their horizons including VIP and Royal visits, and training facilities on a variety of platforms both at sea and in the Dockyard. PSTT is supported by many sponsors including the Royal Navy, which kindly provides the Trust’s premises and launching facilities inside the Naval Base.

They have quickly demonstrated an ability to bring about positive change, they benefit from a dedicated staff and volunteer team, they have worked tirelessly to ensure their message reaches the widest possible audience, and they have a strong, engaged and dynamic Board which is outward looking.

Salary: Circa £55,000 per annum
