Young Persons Development and Maritime Best Project Awards announced at Seawork 2018

To celebrate the 21st year of Seawork, two additional  categories have been added to the European Commercial Marine Awards (ECMAs), the ECM Young Person’s Development Award and the ECM Maritime Best Project Award.

The European Commercial Marine Awards (ECMAs), incorporating the Innovations Showcase that attracts entries from across Europe, recognises the depth of excellence in commercial marine and celebrates the outstanding individuals and innovative companies that comprise this vibrant and productive industry sector.

In addition to the ECM Awards for Maritime Professional, Sustainability, and Lifetime Achievement, two new awards are introduced for 2018.

The ECM Maritime Best Project Award will be presented to a company or organisation operating within the commercial marine and workboat sector, for challenges in marine civils or vessel operations.

Submissions for this award could include any marine civil engineering project, from refurbishment, improvement to new build of jetty extensions, breakwaters, port & harbour development and maintenance, dredging, coastline and estuaries, including beach reprofiling and replenishment, coastal flooding and sea level rise, marinefoundations, offshore structures, underwater construction, scour protection, coastal erosion, public access works, sea outfalls, drilling and piling, cable and pipelaying, bridge inspection and repair amongst others.

Many of these activities involve the coming together of a range of different contractors and services – contractors, project managers, workboat operators and charterers, barges, jack-up barges, cranes, surveyors, hydrographers, marine surveyors, diving services to name but a few. Each project often requires many companies working together.

The ECM Young Person’s Development Award offers young people, from 17 – 30 years of age who are currently studying to work or just starting a career in the Maritime Industry, an opportunity to achieve industry recognition and a bursary to help further their career. Mercator Media is offering a bursary worth up to £850 (or equivalent value in relevant currency) to help one young maritime student, apprentice or trainee further advance their career.

To enter all you have to do is make a short video showing us why you should win the ECM Young Person’s Development Award 2018; the video could showcase projects you have completed or are currently working on, or that demonstrate your passion for the industry. The video should be between 1 minute and 3 minutes long and accompanied by a few words to explain what you would spend the bursary on, and how it would help you in your career.

The winner will receive the bursary, a trophy and an invitation to the exclusive ECMAs awards ceremony at Seawork on Tuesday 3 July.

To submit an entry, visit the Awards section at Seawork.com and fill out the ECM Young Person’s Development Award form. Entries open on 30 April and close at 12 noon on 11 June 2018.
