About
Portsmouth Harbour Marine has been set up to promote marine businesses, skills and participation around Portsmouth and Gosport Harbour.
Portsmouth Harbour Marine (PHM) was established in 2019 to expand Gosport Marine Scene (GMS) into a harbour-wide operation. Since 2013 GMS had been successfully supporting the 160+ marine related businesses on the Gosport peninsula and engaging local young people with water sports and marine careers. However although the Solent’s thriving yachting scene is well known in Cowes, Lymington and the Hamble not everyone knows that Portsmouth Harbour is in fact home to the biggest concentration of yachts and related services on the south coast.
Therefore PHM has been launched as a community interest company to:
- Work with schools, colleges and marine businesses to improve the work readiness of young people and individuals for employment within the local marine sector.
- Work with charities and other providers of local on-water activities to promote water-based activities as a means to improve health and well-being, develop life skills and increase marine careers awareness.
- Promote and support the development of Portsmouth Harbour, its facilities, marine businesses and their networks to stimulate economic growth, marine employment and inward investment.
- Champion Portsmouth Harbour as a destination for boats and aims to stimulate investment in national and international events to raise awareness of the local marine sector and involve the local harbour communities.
